Taormina is not known for great restaurants. Pizza restaurants flourish whilst many of the others try to appeal to tourists with translations in all languages and pretty pictures of their dishes.
These places are not for us however we did manage to find a few gems.
Hidden under the trees in a small street that runs off Via Teatro Greco, La Tavernetta is perfect for lunch or dinner.
The service was excellent as was the food.
The limoncello bottle at the end of the meal, a treat!
Just outside the Messina Gate is the restaurant, L’Arco dei Cappuccini.
It is situated on a busy road but once seated in the garden and concentrating on the food, the noise is quickly forgotten.
Fish for dinner? One by one they are paraded.
A fresh plate of raw tuna was a perfect starter. Light and fabulously tasty
For a stunning view and relaxing drinks, the terrace of the Grand Hotel Timeo cannot be beaten. Dinner here is a treat.
Insalata di porcini, simple and delicious, followed by a fabulous grilled fillet of swordfish with herb sauce or perfectly cooked fillet of veal with seasonal vegetables, cannot be beaten.
The sommelier’s suggestions of a 2009 Tenuta di Regaleali Chardonnay and a 2005 Duca Enrico from the Duca di Salaparuta Winery, were excellent.
A stunning night.
